Conference planning committee addresses COVID-19 concerns

The health, safety, and well-being of NAO members and the communities we serve is the Conference Planning Committee’s highest priority. Together with NAO Leadership, we are closely monitoring the evolving circumstances surrounding COVID-19.  At present, we are proceeding as scheduled with plans for the 2020 NAO Biennial Conference in Salt Lake City, July 14-17, 2020. Conference registration is open! Consult with your state and/or university guidelines regarding travel prior to making any flight arrangements. 

Refunds
The Conference Planning Committee and NAO Leadership are communicating daily regarding COVID-19 and will post updates on the Conference website.  Our current refund policy allows for a full refund of registration less 20% per person administrative fee for cancellations made by June 19, 2020.   Our policy also allows for the NAO Board of Directors to use its discretion to refund registration and waive processing fees for cancellations due to special circumstances or medical reasons.  Refund requests will be processed within 14 days after receipt of the written cancellation notice. Refunds will be credited to the credit card account within 6-8 weeks. Refunds for registration paid by check or Purchase Order will be made payable to the original issuer.

Frequently Asked COVID-19 Questions:

  1. If Conference registration shows a drastic decrease, will the 2020 NAO Biennial Conference be canceled?

At this point in time, the 2020 NAO Biennial Conference will take place as scheduled. However, full refunds will be given and processing fees will not be assessed if the Conference is cancelled by NAO. NAO Leadership will continue to monitor the situation and update this site accordingly. 

  1. If my state/institution/university bans travel to meetings, will I receive a refund for my registration?

NAO’s current refund policy allows for a refund of registration less 20% per person administrative fee for cancellations made by June 19, 2020.  In addition, the policy also allows for the NAO Board of Directors to use its discretion to refund registration for medical reasons or unusual circumstances.

  1. If I decide not to attend the Conference due to concerns for my own well- being, will I receive a refund for my registration?

NAO’s refund policy allows for the Board of Directors to use its discretion to refund registration for medical reasons or unusual circumstances.

  1. I have already changed my travel plans because of COVID-19. Can I get reimbursed for my registration?

  1. What steps is NAO taking to protect conference attendees?

We encourage all attendees to stay informed on the basic protective measures the public can take. Hand sanitizers will be available, and disposable microphone covers will be placed on all microphones being utilized. In addition, we encourage attendees to exchange ‘elbow bumps’ in lieu of handshakes or hugs to reduce potential transmission of any illness.

  1. Does NAO have travel and health safety tips for me to consider prior to arriving in Salt Lake City?

Attendees should not travel to the Conference if they are feeling unwell. Attendees should also monitor their state and institutional policies for travel notices and guidelines.  We encourage attendees to check the CDC website for additional information, and follow the World Health Organization’s (WHO) travel advice as they prepare to attend the Conference.

  1. Will Sponsors & Exhibitors be given refunds?

Refunds to Sponsors & Exhibitors align with the policies set forth for Conference attendees with the exception of the date.  The date for cancellation with refund has been extended to May 30, 2020


AHEC Awards nomination deadline extended

In case you were “intending” to write that awards nomination or perhaps just waiting for one more piece of information and the deadline crept up on you, the deadline for the NAO Awards nominations has been extended to Saturday, March 14 at 12 noon!

We invite you to nominate centers and programs for the Center of Excellence or one of our Legacy Awards that will be presented at the 2020 Biennial Conference July 14-17.

Categories include three Legacy Awards and five Center of Excellence Awards. The Center of Excellence (COE) Awards (Nomination Form) have been redesigned to align with HRSA's overarching priorities: Diversity and Distribution. The Legacy Awards remain the same and are the Eugene S. Mayer Program of Excellence Award, the Andy Nichols Award for Social Justice and the Red Koelling Distinguished Service Award. The linked documents describe the criteria for nominating and the review criteria that will be used for each award.

2020 NAO Biennial Conference

2020 NAO Biennial Conference Planning

Crossroads Utah AHEC and the members of the Utah AHEC Program will be our hosts.
